Collesta Fougère

This composition represents a contemporary natural reinterpretation of the classical fougère architecture first formalized by Houbigant’s Fougère Royal in 1882. The structure preserves the defining triad of lavender, coumarin, and moss while expanding the floral and resinous dimensions through rare materials and traditional tincturing methods.
The opening accords emphasize aromatic clarity, with bergamot, lavender, and clary sage establishing the canonical herbal freshness characteristic of the fougère genre. The heart introduces rose geranium and rose, lending refined floral lift, while tuberose provides a controlled creamy indolic depth that softens the aromatic spine without obscuring its structure.
The base is constructed around an authentic chypre foundation composed of oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver, and sandalwood. Resinous fixatives — benzoin, amber resin, vanilla, and pure tonka — reinforce warmth and persistence while highlighting coumarin’s hay-like tonalities that historically defined the fougère identity.
A subtle phenolic nuance referencing early aminosalicylic acid–associated moss accords contributes tonal realism and archival character. Ambergris tincture functions as the principal diffusion enhancer, providing radiance, cohesion, and a skin-like mineral warmth that integrates the composition over time.
The result is a fougère that retains its classical intellectual framework while presenting a softened, textural, and distinctly artisanal expression.
